“Artemis Fowl” by Eoin Colfer

I read this via audiobook which I really recommend because the reader is excellent. I am willing to put money on this series being made into movies. The books are popular, the characters are unique and there’s pretty much nonstop action and comedy, with a little drama thrown in.

Kim Watches Old Movies Part 2: Gaslight

“Gaslight” made it’s way into my queue because I was reading the wikipedia article to learn what “gaslighting” is. In short, it’s when someone tries to convince you you’re going crazy. The synopsis of the film was intriguing and since it was free on Amazon Prime I popped it on during dinner the other night. […]

Kim Watches Old Movies Part 1: Citizen Kane

For a few years now I’ve been wanting to catch up on all Those Movies You’re Supposed to Have Seen, and this afternoon when I found myself with some free time I started doing that. I’m not planning to write formal reviews of these movies – just whatever comes to me at the time. Obviously […]

“The Captain’s Bride” by Lisa Tawn Bergren

I liked this book. I wouldn’t say that I loved it, but it fills a certain niche. I downloaded the audiobook from the public library and listened to it off and on whenever I had to drive more than 30 minutes. It took a while to get through the whole thing and I had to re-download it many many times. The library probably thinks I’m obsessed with it.

I loved this book! It’s one of those books that’s shelved in YA but it really doesn’t matter because you get completely sucked in. I read it just a few evenings (which is very fast for me) and I found myself thinking about it all day at work.

I won’t give any spoilers because I know you’re going to go pick it up right away, but I’ll give you the basics. The story takes place in a fantasy world that vaguely resembles medieval Europe. At the beginning of the book a young woman, named Yelena, is in prison on a death sentence. One day she is offered a choice: take a job as the Commander’s food taster or take the noose.

The Leek Experiment

Well, that didn’t go as I planned. Here are my tweets from The Day Of The Leek: Jan 29, 10:36pm – The next 2 days should be pretty interesting… #LeekFast2013 Jan 30, 9:36am – Breakfast: boiled leeks with a little olive oil, lemon juice, salt & pepper. 11:04am – Midmorning snack: Leek broth. #LeekFast2013 11:05am – The leek […]
